Handte receives innovation assistance from the German Foundation for the Environment (Deutsche Bundesstiftung für Umwelt) for the Handte Stream and efficient flow measurement and control in exhaust air cleaning technology

The new Handte Stream is a compact component which can be adapted to suit processes and is utilised for measurement and control of exhaust air volumes on machine tools. It fulfils safety requirements and offers enormous cost saving potential in centralised systems.

                                     

As a compact unit, the Handte Stream represents an interface between machine tools and exhaust air systems. It encompasses manual control valves for regulation of the air system and, when processing oil, is equipped with an additional rapid-action air valve to enable reduction of the extinguishing volume.

The main function of the compact Handte Stream is safety. A permanent flow monitor indicates whether a predefined function is being adhered to (i.e. the volume of air to be conveyed out of machine tools). This involves ensuring that adequate air is drawn in to meet occupational and environmental safety criteria and minimising the risk of deflagration and explosions. Differential pressure measurement based on the Bernuli principle is realised during this on a displacement element optimised to suit the flow. It functions independently of the installation position, and measuring distances can be reduced, as the newly-developed displacement element can be installed horizontally or vertically. Measurement of the actual volumetric flow is also possible. The unit is extremely robust, and sensitive reactions to dirt are reduced to a minimum.

When utilised in central systems with several recording points, the Handte Stream embodies considerable cost saving potential with regard to investment and energy consumption. Handte Stream flow control enables savings of between 30% to 40% of the required air volume through process-orientated air volume adaptation. This not only means equivalent energy savings, but also enables the use of smaller central system designs in this order of magnitude.
